Reflection of Antigone

Image
The story of Antigone is about two sisters who go back and forth about wanting to bury their brother that just died due to a fight he had with his brother. King Creon is Antigone's uncle, but he doesn't want Antigone's brother to have a proper burial due to him losing. Antigone was fighting to bury her brother, but her sister Ismene stressed that anyone who buries him you will be stoned because of the Kings (her uncle) decree. Antigone felt very strongly to bury him no matter what the consequences where of doing so. Antigone didn't want to follow Creon's law because she believed in her heart that it wasn't the law of the gods she believed in.  Reading the text, I'll be honest I would do anything to give my brother a proper burial too. However, on the other hand I also can resonate with her sister Ismene because if I were to lose all of my family, I wouldn't want to lose my sister too if I can avoid...

Popol Vuh

Popol Vuh, where to start in this crazy "myth". The complete text is blasphemy ! This entire read was mocking the entire word of God. It took the truth in the Bible and turned it into false truth. In the beginning of the text it is said that everything was still, there was no creation on the earth until two gods come together and conceived to make humanity, animals first. These gods wanted to be worshipped and spoken to but because the animals did not have a language they wiped them off the earth by getting eaten and killed. After they decided to get rid of animals these gods decided okay lets make people from mud, sounds too familiar doesn't it, that didn't work out for them so they created man out of wood. The first chapter alone stopped me in my tracks. In the bible it says,  God, as in Yahweh , spoke a word and created the heaven and earth. In the book of Genesis it says how God created earth, day, night, animals, sea, and man within 7 days.  As the reading contin...

What Is Literature? by David Damrosch

When I first read this article I had to keep coming back to it to finish. I must say I'm super glad I did finish it. I understand that literature is more than the books you read at school, literature is different forms of expressions. Literature can be written and expressed differently depending on the person writing the passage. My favorite form of literature are poems which I actually write myself. In this article it stood out to me very clear that in different cultures and countries words have to be translated for the passage to make sense to the person reading in their respective language. Being bilingual I relate to how important it is for my words in English to translate to Spanish when I'm speaking to someone.  Literature allows us to express things that are happening socially, personally, and global. Literature is an art.  #fa23worldlit
